Springboard Atlantic, a network of Atlantic Canadian Universities and Colleges, recently announced a new program, Atlantic IP Advantage, to help start-ups protect their ideas and innovations with IP. The Atlantic IP Advantage program assists start-ups in Atlantic Canada by developing an IP strategy and raising awareness of IP in the region.
Atlantic IP Advantage is part of Canada’s National Intellectual Property Strategy, which includes $90 million of federal government funding over four years to help innovative and technology-intensive businesses leverage their IP.
Start-ups working with business incubators or accelerators are eligible to apply for funding of up to $50,000 and may have up to 90 percent of their costs covered to develop an IP strategy. Businesses accepted into the Atlantic IP Advantage program will receive guidance by a team of IP experts at Springboard, and work alongside lawyers and consultants to protect IP from suppliers and comply with regulations.
