United States Steel Corporation Goes Nano

April 21, 2021

As reported by BusinessWire, United States Steel Corporation (“U.S. Steel”) announced its recent acquisition of the flat-rolled patents and trademarks of The NanoSteel Company (“NanoSteel”). U.S. Steel plans to expand its offerings of advanced high-strength steels, which have become more popular in recent years.

NanoSteel developed patented alloys that are meant to achieve extreme strength with enhanced formability. NanoSteel grades can be rolled thicker than other high-strength grades and are designed for automotive and other industrial applications where higher strength-to-weight ratios are essential.

U.S. Steel now owns the majority of The NanoSteel Company’s intellectual property and is the only owner and producer of the internationally-recognized high-strength steel grades.
