Authors Falling Victim to "Book Spamming"

January 10, 2024

--

With the expansive capabilities of artificial intelligence, AI-generated works have extended into the publishing industry. As reported by The Guardian, some authors have fallen victim to a new phenomenon known as "book spamming".

Using direct publishing systems, pseudonymous authors are reportedly using AI to create and self-publish “low-quality” books that are being sold on online book platforms. These books are allegedly copying or imitating the titles and topics of other authors, which is contrary to the guidelines of online book platforms.

To address this problem, some online book platforms have reportedly introduced measures such as requiring publishers to disclose the use of AI-generated content and restricting them to publishing three books per day.
