BTS’s label denies claims of copyright infringement

August 12, 2021

--

BTS is a South Korean boy band that has sold over 20 million albums.

As reported by The Korea Herald, BTS’s label, Big Hit Music, released a statement that the hit song, “Butter”, does not infringe any copyright. The company did acknowledge, however, that it is aware of claims that the introduction of the song may be plagiarized.

There is speculation online that the introduction of the song is similar to the soundtrack of the 1992 Konami game, "Monster in My Pocket".

In addition, a Dutch musician, Luca Debonaire, has claimed that the chorus of “Butter” is similar to his song, “You Got Me Down”. Debonaire claims to have purchased the top line of his song from one of the songwriters of “Butter”, Sebastian Garcia.
