Caitlyn Jenner’s Skincare Line Foiled by Trademark Challenges

April 8, 2019

--

Caitlyn Jenner’s plan to start a skincare line has run into a roadblock.

The US Patent & Trademark Office (USPTO) has refused registration of 'Jenner Skincare', 'Skincare By Jenner', ‘Skincare by Caitlyn Jenner’ and ‘Caitlyn Jenner Skincare’, on the basis that some of the marks are too similar to trademarks already registered by her ex-wife Kris Jenner, and their daughters Kendall and Kylie Jenner.

In the office actions, the USPTO found that 'Jenner Skincare' and ‘Skincare by Jenner’ could confuse customers with other Jenner family brands, as many of them are also in the cosmetic and skincare industry. 'Kylie Cosmetics by Kylie Jenner', a highly successful makeup line, was cited as one example. For the ‘Skincare by Caitlyn Jenner’ and ‘Caitlyn Jenner Skincare’ marks, the USPTO was of the view that these marks are confusing with a prior-filed pending application.

Recently, Jenner filed Notices of Abandonment of the applications to register all four of the marks. This appears to align with recent rumors that Jenner has abandoned her plans to launch a line in light of the trademark challenges.
