Can You Smell What Russ is Cookin’? NFL’s Russell Wilson Files for “Let Russ Cook” Trademark

January 8, 2021

--

According to ESPN, Russell Wilson, quarterback for the NFL’s Seattle Seahawks, has filed a trademark application with the United States Patent and Trademark Office for the phrase "Let Russ Cook". The trademark would cover cooking utensils and attire, and cookware.

In recent years, the phrase has been used by fans and analysts alike to urge the Seahawks to abandon their notoriously run-heavy offensive scheme in favour of more passing. “Let Russ Cook” has taken on new meaning and popularity this season, as the team has finally let its 31-year-old quarterback do just that. In a year where Wilson is widely considered a contender for the NFL’s MVP award, the Seahawks have done more passing plays than in any other season of the nine-year veteran quarterback’s career.

According to Wilson’s agent, the proceeds from the trademark will go to the quarterback’s Why Not You Foundation.
