As reported by GM Authority, General Motors has filed a trademark application for “ZRX” with the United States Patent and Trademark Office, for use with “motor land vehicles, namely, automobiles, sport utility vehicles, trucks, vans, engines therefor and structural parts thereof”.
The ZR tag has been associated with high performance GM vehicles, such as the Corvette ZR1 and Colorado ZR2. This may shed light on GM’s plans to use the ZRX mark on a future vehicle.
GM has also previously used the ZRX mark. In the early 2000s, ZRX was a variant of the compact GMC Sonoma pickup truck. The truck was powered by the 4.3L Vortec V6 engine and a four-speed automatic gearbox. Less than 500 units of the Sonoma ZRX were built.
There is no indication of what a new ZRX may look like from the trademark application, but based on the previous ZRX and the affiliation of ZR with high performance vehicles, a sportier appearance is likely in store.
