One of the largest bicycle manufacturers in the world, Giant Manufacturing (“Giant”), has reportedly been issued a patent for a “shock absorption device” for use in gravel bikes.
While the overall structure of this shock absorption device is similar to other suspension forks on the market for mountain bikes, Giant’s patent includes a positioning column, which aims to avoid some bobbing that is known to occur with other suspension forks when the rider is out of the saddle.
While suspension forks in gravel bikes have low user uptake compared to those in mountain bikes, an alternative from Giant could precipitate a shift in the market and make these kinds of devices a more common addition to gravel bikes.
