Is Huawei’s Latest Flip Phone Really One of a Kind?

December 15, 2020

--

According to Gizmochina, Huawei recently patented another foldable phone design, which many are predicting will be the future of smartphones. However, as tech commentators have recognized, it bears a striking resemblance to Samsung’s Galaxy Z Flip.

Although Huawei filed its application with the China National Intellectual Property Administration earlier this year, the patent for the tech giant’s most recent foray into foldable phones was not approved until late October. So far, the only distinction between this design and Samsung’s model are the camera setup, placement of the physical buttons, a larger display and an inner screen without punch-hole or notch. It is still unclear whether Huawei will include an under-screen camera in a future model of this device.

The launch date is still unknown at this point, but it will likely not be until after the U.S. ban is lifted and the company re-gains access to the world’s largest consumer market.
