Mazda has reportedly filed a patent application relating to a rotary-engine vehicle. In the past, Mazda has famously deployed rotary engines in sports cars, such as the RX-7 and RX-8.
As reported by MotorTrend, patent illustrations hint at a hybrid powertrain system with a three-rotor engine and transaxle configuration. While the device could support a hybrid sports car with rear-wheel drive, Mazda’s plans for the patent ultimately remain to be seen.
