Big Ten/NCAA school Penn State has reportedly sued online apparel shop Vintage Brand LLC (vintagebrand.com) for allegedly profiting off its trademarked designs and causing confusion among consumers.
Penn State alleges that Vintage Brand has been selling merchandise with an insignia that is virtually identical to its Nittany Lions logo, without its permission. This is not the first time that Vintage Brand has found itself the target of a trademark infringement suit. At least a dozen other schools have reportedly made similar claims, including Purdue.
Penn State is seeking damages of up to USD $2 million per infringement and disgorgement of any profits from merchandise that used Penn State logos or designs.
