Solas OLED Sues Nintendo Over OLED Displays

January 25, 2022

--

As reported by The Irish Times, Solas OLED Ltd. (“Solas”), a Dublin-based company that specializes in OLED technologies that it licenses to consumer electronics manufacturers, has filed a patent infringement lawsuit against Nintendo.

The lawsuit alleges that the seven-inch display in the Nintendo Switch OLED infringes four of Solas’s U.S. patents (7,499,042, 7,573,068, 7,868,880, and 7,663,615).

This is not Solas’s first lawsuit in respect of its OLED technology.

Earlier in 2021, Solas filed patent infringement lawsuits against LG and its customers, Sony and Panasonic. It settled its patent disputes with LG and its customers.

Solas also recently commenced patent infringement proceedings against Samsung, in which it won an award of nearly $80 million. This award was affirmed on appeal in October.
