As COVID-19 continues to mean digital media is more prevalent than ever, Canon has filed a patent application for a new device which could pave the way for easier selfies and video blogs.
The patent application was reported by a number of sources including, Digital Camera World, Canon News, and Engadget, and would allow for easier selfies, and vlogs, due to a lens capable of swiveling in any direction. The device includes a handheld camera that features a design similar to that of the Osmo Pocket camera with numerous RF mirrorless lenses.
Digital Camera World’s reporting on the device notes that, while the device offers exciting opportunities for content creators and anyone interested in digital media, there is no guarantee it will ever see the light of day. Canon files many patent applications each year, many of which never come to fruition. However, given the number of patent applications filed for this particular technology, it appears to be likely that Canon is serious about its release sometime in the future.
