The Race for Ratings: Nielsen Sues TVSquared

May 2, 2022

--

As recently reported on mrweb, TV ratings company, Nielsen, is suing Scotland-based measurement and attribution specialist, TVSquared, claiming that it infringed a patent titled, "Methods and Apparatus to Collect Distributed User Information for Media Impressions and Search Terms".

The Texas-based suit concerns a US patent that covers a technique for measuring audience exposure across platforms, while protecting personal information. Nielsen claimed that TVSquared misappropriated its intellectual property, causing Nielsen to suffer damages, including but not limited to lost sales and sales opportunities.

TVSquared was recently acquired by US-based Connected TV advertising, delivery and measurement platform, Innovid, for approximately $160 million. Innovid is reportedly reviewing the complaint, but plans to vigorously contest any allegation that the firm has infringed any Nielsen patent.
