On Wednesday, October 16, 2019, at 1 PM eastern time, Jordan Scopa of the Goodmans IP Team will be moderating a webinar for the Intellectual Property Institute of Canada titled "Bootstrapping an IP Program at an Innovative Company".
The panelists will be Jeffrey Kang of Norton Rose Fulbright Canada and Tracey Stott of Irving Shipbuilding Inc., both of whom have experience as in-house IP counsel.
A synopsis of the webinar follows:
Companies across many industry sectors have undergone transformations to become innovative, IP-producing companies. Capturing and protecting the value of innovative activity requires implementing an IP program. Our speakers, who both have in-house experience building IP programs, will present on the function of an IP program and the role of IP counsel in supporting innovative activity. They will discuss the components of an IP program, including people, processes, systems, and technology. They will distinguish an IP program from a patent program and talk about the importance of managing IP broadly, including trade secrets, data, and various legal agreements. Finally, they will present on how to seed and cultivate an IP culture.
