First Look at LG’s New Phone Through Design Patents

December 3, 2018

--

LG recently filed three design patent applications for its new phone with the Korean Intellectual Property Office.

The patent applications describe a phone with a curved display and quad-camera, and a fingerprint sensor on the back. The notch at the top of the screen has been replaced by a hole, which will allow for more flexible placement of the front-facing camera and increase the screen-to-body ratio of the phone. The oval-shaped camera hole suggests that the phone may include two front-facing cameras or a front-facing camera and an earpiece.

The patent applications demonstrate that LG is working to create a phone with nearly 100% viewing area. The new device will be nearly bezel-less, in keeping with the smartphone trend started by Apple with the introduction of the iPhone X.
