Iconic Japanese Director Sues Production Company for Copyright Infringement

July 23, 2021

--

Iconic Japanese actor and director, Takeshi Kitano, has reportedly sued Bandai Namco Arts ("Bandai") for alleged copyright infringement. Over the course of a career spanning multiple decades, Bandai has invested and distributed many of Kitano's films.

Kitano's suit reportedly alleges that he was not compensated for writing and directing a total of fifteen films. These films include a number of his most famous and successful works, such as "Hana-bi", which won the Golden Lion award at the 1997 Venice International Film Festival.
