As reported by GameRant, Sony has filed an updated patent for a virtual reality (“VR”) technology that gives users of its PlayStation gaming console the ability to embed objects from the real-world into video games through the use of a 3D scanner.
The new technology can be integrated into PS VR 2, Sony and PlayStation’s futuristic VR system.
Sony’s goal with its new technology is to allow just about anything to become interactive within the VR space, but the scope of what will be possible has yet to be determined. An existing limitation of the 3D scanner is that it is necessary for users to have a 360-degree view of the object in order to successfully scan it into the virtual space.
